DSC_1625Wine connoisseurs, here’s the deal! Why waste the holiday season when it takes little to get wasted? Pune is lucky to be one of the first cities in the country to be gifted a special aged premium treatise by Grover Zampa Vineyards. December 18, 2013 witnessed the launch of Zampa Chêne Grand Reserve 2010, a limited edition estate bottled wine, to elevate your wine drinking experience. This excellent vintage of 2010 is a signature blend of Tempranillo and Syrah, produced from handpicked grapes from the Grover Zampa vineyards in Igatpuri. Mr. Sumedh Mandala, CEO Grover Zampa Vineyards, announced the Pune market launch at an exclusive wine dinner held at The Westin, Koregaon Park.

Chêne Grand Reserve is inspired from the symbol of pride, dedication and joy – the oak tree. Resonating sophistication and the passion of wine-making, Mr. Mandala sounded ecstatic as he shared his experiences with us and celebrated the unrivalled expertise and distinct craftsmanship behind the making of this festive treat. “Chêne, a one-of-its-kind red wine in India is preciously matured in French oak for fifteen months, blessed with the wisdom of oak. The wine is further aged in bottle for another fifteen months”, he said.

DSC_1628This exquisite wine is reserved for only a few privileged individuals, as the current limited edition batch is for just 3000 bottles across the state of Maharashtra. Mr. Mandala emphasised on the subtle and elegant notes that this wine targets with its ripe dark fruit aromas such as blackberry, black currant and ripe plums. These aromas are complemented by charming hints of spices and well integrated oak bouquets such as vanilla, liquorice, chocolate and roasted coffee beans. The deep and intense ruby-colored wine has an abundance of dark fruit and nuances of vanilla and cinnamon on the palate, with a great structure, well-balanced tannin, acidity and an elegant finish. So, as you’re gearing up for the ultimate party of the year, team this ruby-coloured wine with a variety of dishes, right from stews, grilled meats and veggies and pasta.

Upon asking Mr. Mandala about his views on the current “scene” of Indian wine market, he had excellent insights to share with us – “Firstly, wine is healthy! Healthier than any other alcoholic drink! What’s more, it adds class. The Indian customer today is becoming more and more health conscious, which gives us the liberty to experiment with wines of all kind. What’s more, wine is the only drink that goes well with food”.

Available only in select premium outlets across Pune and Mumbai, the Chêne is truly a treat for wine connoisseurs in the city of Pune. So, what are you waiting for? Time’s ticking! Go, grab your bottle right now!
