Rocking the heart of the city, Pune has witnessed five low intensity blasts during the rush hour. Within a span of one hour, five bombs went off within a kilometer from each other. The blasts occurred in and around Junglee Maharaj Road post 07:30 pm. One person has been reported to be injured.
Three of the blasts took place outside the Balgandharva auditorium, opposite a McDonalds joint and near Dena Bank branch. One of the bombs was placed on a cycle and the second one in a trashcan.
The blasts occurred after Sushil Kumar Shinde took over today as the country’s new Home Minister. He was to arrive in Pune for a prize-giving ceremony but cancelled his visit. The blasts occurred in close proximity to where the ceremony was scheduled to be held, the Tilak Theatre.
The injured person is being suspected by officials and interrogated by the police. The blasts look like a planned attack, and so the PM, Dr. Singh, said that the terror angle cannot be overlooked.
The blasts have reminded the city of the unfortunate German Bakery blasts in February 2010, where about seventeen people were killed.
