Indian Express: The University of Pune (UoP) examination department is all set to go online from this academic session. Students can now directly submit their forms online on the varsity website.
So far all the forms for exams, convocations, degree certificates and other documents were available as PDF files on the varsity website from where they had to be downloaded and sent to the college. The college would then send the forms to UoP.
Sampada Joshi, Controller of Examination (CoE), UoP, said, “Such a long process would give us very little time for cross-checking informations provided by the students and students were unable to rectify mistakes. Now, we will also maintain a database of the records. If a student has already filled his basic details like name, date of birth, etc in the first year itself, he/she need not fill it again from second year onwardsas we will have all such details on the server. Students will be issued a unique identification number which they can use to fill the forms.”
Now, administrative staff at the CoE will start processing the forms as soon as they are submitted online. A cross-verfication of the information will be done once the hard copies of the forms submitted by students in the college are sent to the university. “This will also help us get an estimate of the total number of students appearing for an exam. Till now we had to wait for colleges to send us the aggregate figures, only then could be make seating and other arrangements for the exams,” said Joshi.
She said the decision was taken after the online system was tried out on a pilot basis with MA and MCom departments.
“We got a good response and we had only about 5 per cent error with the forms as data entry errors were reduced greatly due to reduced human interface.
So from this year it was decided to extend the system to other departments as well,” added Joshi.
