The Power of Story
Stories offer us a doorway into our inner magical world- a world in which we come in touch with our dreams, let go of our inhibitions, fight our demons and discover our ‘hero’ selves. Here lie the inspirations, the divine insights, the revitalised energies to sustain us in our day-to-day world and more importantly to nourish and integrate our inner personalities. This workshop proposes to help us grasp the power of story by comprehending its origins and laying out the connections between the two worlds. These insights into the true nature of story will enhance the effectiveness of our role as custodians of our young children by empowering us with a revitalised understanding of the appropriate methods of employing this most appealing, entertaining, educative and therapeutic communication medium- the Story.
The workshop will be of an interactive nature, inter-spread with audio visual illustrations.
Mr. Ajit Rao’s professional journey has covered diverse fields. These include architecture, sculpture, caricature, set-designing, comic-book art, folk art and animation. Further, an intuitive feel for teaching has led him to share these accumulated experiences through workshops and interactive lectures. He has headed various animation-training programs at leading animation studios and been a visiting faculty at premier design and architecture institutes in India besides also conducting workshops with folk and traditional artists. Lately, Ajit has been on a self-imposed sabbatical exploring ways of bringing these collective understandings of diverse media of expression and communication to the world of child pedagogy. During this workshop titled ‘The Power of Story’ he will be sharing some aspects of his recent discoveries.

High big gigs presents Indus Creed
Hello all you band aids!! The Gods are Descending on us this Friday!!
The stage is set for Indian rockers Indus Creed to make a comeback with the launch of their latest album, Evolve. The trailblazers of the Indian rock movement return to full form with their highly awaited new album. Self-produced by the studio (and live) veterans and mixed by mixing genius Tim Palmer (of Pearl Jam, U2, Robert Plant, Ozzy Osbourne, Porcupine Tree), Evolve will be released in your very own home, Da High this Friday!
The story of Indian rock cannot be told without a mention of the country’s most iconic rock band. Uday Benegal (vocals), Mahesh Tinaikar (guitar), Mark Selwyn (bass), Jayesh Gandhi (guitar), Zubin Balaporia (keyboards) and Mark Menezes (drums) first came together in 1985. Then called Rock Machine, the band had no mission or plan; just an unflagging desire to play the music they loved. In the face of all reason, (there was just one government-run TV channel and radio station, neither of which thought rock ’n’ roll to be particularly “cultural”) the band set out to do just that. It took blood, guts and a steely resolve to cut through the crap. It was just a matter of time before practically every college and concert promoter in the country wanted to book what had become India’s favourite band. The rest is history. They recorded three albums, won a bunch of awards and changed their name to Indus Creed. And in the process, they inspired an entire generation to pick up an instrument and rock it out.
The band’s current lineup comprises:
Uday Benegal – Guitars + Vocals + Programming
Mahesh Tinaikar – Guitars + Vocals
Zubin Balaporia – Keyboards + Vocalese
Rushad Mistry – Bass + Vocals
Jai Row Kavi – Drums + Vocals
Expect the 5 of them to break new frontiers with their high-on-energy/big-on-melody sound yet again! See you there!
Venue: High spirits, Koregaon park
Date: 6th July 2012
