ABC Farms: Say Cheese!

Initially located on Dehu road and spread over an area of 27 acres, ABC Farms Private Limited was was started by three individuals namely Rohinton Aga, Adi Bhathena and Eruch Chinoy in 1976.

Over the year the business grew considerably and is India’s leading cheese and dairly product manufacturer. Situated on the banks of the river in Koregaon Park, this 41 acres area also includes some of the best eating joints in the city.

Started with just 12 cows, today ABC farms has hybrid cows and Swiss goats and produce more than 60 varieties of processed and natural cheeses. Sohrab Chinoy along with his wife Marlene who is a Dairy Bacteriologist together provide their expertise to produce the high quality cheese. They also head the Research and Development cell in order to maintain high quality and develope new varities on cheese which are 100% vegetarian to meet the needs of Indians.

The milk that is produced on the farm is not only used for producing cheese and other milk products like ghee, paneer, butter, yogurts etc but is also supplied to bakeries, hotels, restaurants and hospitals in the city. Some of the varities of cheese that are produced here are Cheddar cheese, Mozzarella,Edam Ball, Gorgonzolla, Parmesan and Ricotta. One can buy all their products from either the head office or other three outlets one of them being Dorabjees on Moledina Road.

While running this venture,conscious efforts have been made in terms of environment awareness. The farm under takes organic farming as well and the products grown are used in the restaurant. Part of the dung produced by livestock is converted into bio-gas while the rest of it along with urine of cattle is used as fertilizer in the farm.

Other than proessing of dairy products and growing of organic vegetables, the farm is also into Technology and Know-how Franchising, Dairy Consulting, Farming and Cattle breeding, Dairy Cultures, and Farm Restaurants.
