Umesh Kulkarni’s ‘Deool’ to be shown in US

Times of India: Umesh Kulkarni’s latest cinematic offering, ‘Deool’, will be screened in the US next month.

Feauring Nana Patekar, Dilip Prabhavalkar, Sonali Kulkarni and Naseeruddin Shah among others, the film is already garnering critical appreciation from cinephiles.

Screenings will be held in Chicago, Texas, New York, Arizona, California and other cities starting December 3. The initiative has been taken by Marathi mandals in the US. “After screenings in the US, we will show the film in London and Sydney,” said producer Abhijeet Gholap.

Gholap said producers should come together and boost publicity and distribution of quality Marathi movies. “Some eight Marathi films released after ‘Deool.’ This calls for a bigger and better distribution network. Otherwise, quality films will never reach the audience and they won’t get prime screening slots,” Gholap said.

Gholap, however, said in the same breadth that one commercial hit cannot change the rules of the game. “We need at least three to four commercially successful Marathi movies ever year. This requires proper financial and distribution planning by producers.”
