City faces hour-long power cut daily
News — By The Desk on October 3, 2011 at 2:50 PMSakaal Times: The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL) has introduced one-hour load-shedding in the city in the wake of power crisis arising out of shortage of coal supply to power stations in the state.
Though no official schedule of area-wise power-cuts is being issued by MSEDCL, it will vary in different parts. Rural areas of district will have to brace for load-shedding from two hours to six hours, MSEDCL authorities said.
The state has been facing shortfall of 3,500 MW power in the wake of reduction in coal supply from Andhra Pradesh and Orissa to power plants in Maharashtra, coupled with lower power availability with the central grid. MSEDCL authorities said load-shedding in the city would continue till power scenario in the state restores to normal situation.
The zero load-shedding model was introduced for the city in 2009, which had ensured no power cuts so far.
