Gathering @ Hard Rock Cafe

May 15, will see a unique gathering at the Hard Rock Cafe. Fourteen-year-old Riya Jindal has taken the initiative to put together a show in order to raise funds for the Blue Cross Society of Pune and the stray animals it supports. The show will have school children, teenagers and even grown-ups performing live for the crowd, many of whom are bound to be animal lovers. The goal is to collect funds for Blue Cross Society in order for them to cover their daily expenses for food and medical care of the animals.

Anyone who plays an instrument or sings or even someone who is a part of the band can participate. Write to bluecross.hrcfundraiser@gmail.com to audition. The donation pass for this gig is Rs 200 and the money collected will go to the animal organisation.

The Grips Festival 2011

The Max Muller Bhavan and the Theatre Academy, Pune, have organized ‘The Grips Festival 2011′ at NMV High School. This children’s theatre festival will consist of 12 plays, including Nako Re Baba, Mitra Maze, Chan Chote Vait Mothe, Project Aditi, Aai Pan Baba Pan, Pan Amhala Khelaychay, Rastyache Gane and Pahile Paan, which will be staged at 7 pm every day.

Children will connect to the plays as they depict issues related to their lives like separation and remarriage of parents, getting bullied and ragged and even their perspective of a solution to communal riots. Well-known theatre and film personality Dr Mohan Agashe initiated the Grips Theatre in Pune, which is presently managed by the Maharashtra Cultural Centre. The plays and performances have received good responses in Bengaluru, Kolkata, Delhi and Maharashtra.

‘Design of Elements’ – Sculpture Exhibition

Prasad Jagtap creates sculptures in the medium hardener and resin and will host an exhibition of his creations, called ‘Design of Elements’. More than 60 murals shall be displayed based on the theme “sun”. An attempt has been made to show the sun in various forms. The medium used hardens fast on mixing, which limits the time available to exercise one’s imagination. The exhibition reflects the efforts of 21 years and all the stages of the development of the artist’s style. The exhibition will be inaugurated by Architect and Interior Designer Mohan Bhopatkar.

Painting Exhibition by Deepak Bhagat

Bliss Art gallery presents paintings exhibition by Artist Mr Deepak Bhagat. Bhagat is working as a professor in Abhinav kala Mahavidyala, Pune. He is well known to have trained many artists.

Children’s Film Festival

The National Film Archive of India (NFAI) will be holding a three-day children’s film festival from May 13 to 15. The event is being organized in association with Filmi Chashma, an NGO involved in promoting films for children. The films will be drawn from the Children Film Society of India, Alliance Francaise, Max Mueller Bhavan and Iran cultural house.

International Machine Tools Expo 2011

Maharashtra Badminton League

The Haveli Taluka Badminton Association, with support from Pune and Thane District Badminton Associations under the aegis of Maharashtra Badminton Association, are set to host the first ever Maharashtra Badminton League (MBL). The league will kick off from Pune on May 7 and will be held in Pune and Thane on all weekends (Saturdays / Sundays).
