Sakaal Times: With an aim to bridge the gap between academia and industry, the University of Pune (UoP) is all set to start the first-of- its-kind Integrated M Tech-Ph D programme in technology from first week of July, Vice Chancellor Dr Raghunath K Shevgaonkar said on Tuesday.
“Today in India, the gross enrollment ratio (GER) is 12 per cent.  Twenty per cent of this is in technology, five per cent  in PG programmes in technology, another five per cent in industrially relevant application oriented research. Only 0.006 per cent youth contribute to industrial research,” Shevgaonkar said.

He was addressing the members of Mahratta Chamber of Commerce Industries and Agriculture (MCCIA) at an interactive session to update on the programme.

“Considering that India will be a developed nation in a few decades, it needs its own strong research and development (R&D) base. Keeping this situation in mind, the University of Pune’s Integrated M Tech-Ph D programme in technology will promote research which needs to be done and not that which can be done,” he said.

The programme has application oriented research supporting local industrial needs. It develops tight partnership between academia and industry, has output oriented approach. There is flexibility and multi-disciplinary research.
