Maharashtra Badminton League
The Haveli Taluka Badminton Association, with support from Pune and Thane District Badminton Associations under the aegis of Maharashtra Badminton Association, are set to host the first ever Maharashtra Badminton League (MBL). The league will kick off from Pune on May 7 and will be held in Pune and Thane on all weekends (Saturdays / Sundays).

Art Rendezvous – Group Art Exhibition
Art2Day gallery is showcasing beautiful group exhibition titled ‘Art Rendezvous’ by 15 prominent painters from India. This is a unique exhibition of 35 artworks by leading artists in support of charity fundraising for NGO ‘India At 2047′ for their project of distribution of de-worming medicine for slum children.
This exhibition will display artworks by Buwa Shete, Chandramohan, Chippa Sudhakar, Fawad Tamakant, G.Subramanium, Harsha Vardhana, H.R.Das, Jaya Baheti, JMS Mani, Laxman Aelay, Laxma Goud, Pandurang Tathe, Sachin Jaltare, Sham Bhutkar, Ramesh Gojrala & Thota Vaikuntam. Each participating artist has his unique style which has made him popular and sought after for his works. Exhibition will showcase finest of creative canvases from these art masters.

DSK Gappa
In the 12th consecutive year of DSK Gappa, the organizers bring to you renowned personalities to share their journey. This year, Ujwal Nikam, special public prosecutor for the Mumbai terror attacks has been invited to speak about his experience. The programme will also feature actress Neena Kulkarni, television stars Mrunmayee Deshpande (Kunku), Bhargavi Chirmule, stand-up comedians Anand Ingale and Vaibhav Mangale (Fu Bai Fu).
The programme will start off with Kaifiyat Kashmirchi, wherein senior journalist Arvind Gokhale will interview retired Major Prashant Vishwasrao, secret services expert Vishvesh Deshmukh and Sarhad Foundation president Sanjay Nahar. On May 6, Neena Kulkarni will share her journey from Sawat Mazhi Ladaki to Marathi play Hamida Bai Chi Kothi.
Tarunai on May 7 will feature Mrunmayee Deshpande and Bhargavi Chirmule talking about winning a renowned dance competition, current soap operas and future projects. They will be accompanied by Anand Ingale and Vaibhav Mangale.

Paragliding Festival
The Paragliding Association of India is proud to announce the First PAI Paragliding Festival – ‘PG Fest 2011′. This high energy, entertaining flying event will be held at Shelar Hills in Karanjgaon Village at Kamshet, 110 km from Mumbai (Bombay) city near the famous hill station – Lonavala.
The event is aimed at bringing the Indian PG community together and also to promote the sport in the region. PG pilots from all over India are expected to participate in this Free-Flying festival. PAI will also hold a ‘Spot Landing Competition’ during the event.

Vasantik Sangeet Natya Mahotsav
‘Sangeet Swarasamradni,’ ‘Mam Sukhachi Thev,’ ‘Mandarmala’ and ‘Katyar Kaljat Ghusli’ will be part of a rich bouquet of ‘sangeet nataks’ (Marathi musicals) that will be presented during the 21st edition of the Vasantik Sangeet Natya Mahotsav – the spring festival of Marathi musicals.
The festival will open with ‘Sangeet Aakhyan Mahakavi Kalidas’, a revival of one of the most famous ‘sangeet nataks’. It will feature theatre artiste Charudatta Aphale in the lead. The plays at this year’s fest will feature well-known theatre artistes like Aphale, Gautam Murdeshwar, Sanjeev Mehendale, Swarpriya Behere, Kavita Tikekar and Gauri Patil, among others.

Dhanya Mahotsav 2011
The state department of agriculture, state marketing board and Mahatma Phule Agriculture University, Rahuri, have jointly organised Dhanya Mahotsav 2011. The event is aimed at making quality food grains, fruits and vegetables available at reasonable rates to customers and thereby establishing a direct link between farmers and buyers.
A total of 2,145 farmers from over 460 villages in 13 talukas will showcase their produce. This would include 1,500 quintal jowar, 3,650 quintal wheat, 2,210 quintal rice (including assorted varieties of Ambe-Mohar, Indrayani, Basmati, Pusa and Phule Samruddhi). Similarly, 282 quintal pulses, including toor dal and moong dal, would be made available in packing sizes of 1 kg, 2 kg and 5 kg respectively. Apart from these, organic jaggery, unprocessed rice, molasses, as well as 54 quintal ragi and bhagar would also be available.Similarly, fruits, such as watermelon and muskmelon, would be available. Over 40 stalls would sell approximately 5,000 crates of mangoes from Devgadh, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Thane.

Astronomy Day – Bringing Astronomy to the People
Astronomy Day is a grass roots movement designed to share the joy of astronomy with the general population – “Bringing Astronomy to the People.” On Astronomy Day, thousands of people who have never looked through a telescope will have an opportunity to do so. Astronomy clubs, science museums, observatories, universities, planetariums, laboratories, libraries, and nature centres host special events and activities to acquaint their population with local astronomical resources and facilities. Many of these events are located at non-astronomical sites; shopping malls, parks, urban centres truly Bringing Astronomy to the People.

Colourful Expressions – Painting Exhibition
A group show of paintings – Colourful Expressions – by a trio of artists, Prachi Apte, Kaveri Bodhe and Kalyani Bhogle, will be held at Darpan Art Gallery. The artists have captured the beauty of nature and vibrancy of society in their work. Bodhe uses colours and textures to depict the essence of nature; Apte uses natural motifs and Kalyani depicts the shades of human emotions.

Anand Mela 2011
Anand Mela 2011 organised by Sayaji Park with an investment of over Rs 25 lakh gives you a taste of village life which existed 100 years ago. Spread across 27 acres, near Donje gav, the fair is worth a watch. The organisers have recreated 125 home structures and have replicated old professions of talim, vedic shiksha, chambar and shilpa. The village also has a fort and will showcase a popular play titled, ‘Gad ala pan sinh gela’ where 60 artists will perform. The fair will also travel to other places in Maharashtra. Designed by Lalit Chikhalkar, the entire village set up is movable.
The PMPL has arranged to and fro bus transport for the same from Sarasbaug, Shaniwarwada and Dhairyee Phata. The last bus from the venue will leave at 11pm on all days of the event.
