Fusion music concert will be held on April 24
Around the city, Art — By The Desk on April 11, 2011 at 11:44 AMSakaal Times: Bringing together two distinct styles of music, singing sensations Swapnil Bandodkar and Rahul Deshpande will be performing in the city. Aptly titled as ‘Swara’, standing for ‘Swapnil’ and ‘Rahul’, the show will be held on April 24 at the New English School Grounds, Tilak Road, from 7.30 pm.
“We are good friends since our Sa Re Ga Ma days. Recently we performed together at the Vasantotsav and it was well appreciated. For this show, we’ll be presenting some specially composed bandish, abhangas, and natyasangeet. Swapnil is taking lot of efforts to mould himself into the classical style of music, and it’s almost like he’s going back to his roots”, said Rahul Deshpande.
Mumbai-based Bharatiya Innovation Pvt Ltd is presenting this show. Speaking on the occasion Director Abhijit Panse said, “This will be a two-hour fusion music concert. Beginning with Pune, we later plan to take this to other cities in Maharashtra as well.”
Swapnil Bandodkar said, “Rahul is like my mentor. I’m genuinely very excited to share the stage with him. Every song that we will be performing is going to be different from what the audience has heard from us before. There are no solo performances in this and all songs are duets from us. Though we represent diverse forms of music we both gel well and I’m sure the audience will appreciate ‘Swara’.”
When asked how this particular concert is going to be different from other fusion performances previously held in the city, such as those by Pt Zakir Hussain, Rahul said, “The earlier fusion shows were more instrumental in nature, which are slightly hard to understand for a layman. Since we’ll be having all songs, it is styled very differently and the presentation too, is going to be unique.”
