Soon, PMC’s CBSE school with smart-class model

Sakaal Times: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will become the first civic body in Maharashtra to have a school on the smart-class model for the underprivileged children which will have a Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) syllabus.
The school will be located near Shivdarshan Chowk at Parvati.
According to Leader of Opposition in the PMC Aba Bagul, in whose ward the school building is coming up, School Education Minister Rajendra Darda has given an oral consent and the formal written order will be issued by the government by the end of this month. Bagul had made a presentation to Darda at the Congress Bhawan on Saturday morning.
“Once we receive the letter from the State government, we will immediately get the approval from the CBSE,” Bagul said.
The school, Bagul said, will be named after the Late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and will be inaugurated by Congress president Sonia Gandhi in February next year.
The five-story building coming up on a 40,000 sqft plot, will have 40 classrooms and will be equipped with modern teaching aids, including projectors. The school will follow the smart-class model, Bagul said.
The school will be constructed on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis, Bagul said. The underprivileged children will be given preference in admissions so that they can get an opportunity to receive quality education. The children would also be provided with specially-designed uniforms.
The school will have three hi-tech laboratories and libraries with two lifts. Presently, 80 per cent of the work has been completed. The total project cost is around Rs 12 crore.
PMC’s school board chairperson Sangeeta Tiwari who was present at the meeting with Darda, said, “We are eagerly waiting for the execution of this project. Our focus will be on quality education for the underprivileged students.”
