Sakaal Times: Getting around Pune will now be easier for outstation students, tourists and even Puneites with the help of a new mobile application called ‘Full2Pune’ that gives city information on your mobile phone without activating GPRS.
Developed by Dixit Chopra, a final year Information and Technology engineering student at College of Engineering Pune (COEP) the application aims at making it easy for people to move around in the city.
Full2Pune has features like an auto fare calculator, locating places of interest, hospitals, pubs, restaurants and tourist attractions, finding train timings and emergency numbers like ambulance, fire brigade and blood banks.
“We have an elective called entrepreneurship development that prompted me to think about such an idea. Through the application if one wants to know the well known places located on Fergusson College or MG road then by just typing the road’s name, the list of the places will appear,” said Dixit who took two months to complete work on the application.
The enterprising student has also developed a website www.full2pune.co.in through which the application software can be downloaded to mobile phones. Speaking about the usefulness of the application, Dixit said, “I was once checking the train time-table while travelling in the train when the person sitting next to me saw what I was doing. After I told him about Full2Pune he asked me for the software. Even my friends have found the application useful.”
Updates of the software can be sent to the user and the application supports all JAVA enabled phones. Dixit now plans to add bus information and replicate the software for other cities as well. Third year COEP students Asha Kawale helped him with the data validating and Amrita Chougule encouraged him to develop the application.
