Times of India: The Pune traffic branch is organising a web design contest for citizens including students, and IT professionals, that will help it select the right design for its proposed website on the city’s traffic.

Giving details of the contest, DCP traffic Manoj Patil on Thursday stated that the participants will have to first register themselves and then go ahead for preparing the design. The best designer will be felicitated and will receive a cash prize as well as a certificate from the traffic branch.

The registration has to be done online on the website www.indiacommutes.com before November 15. Post registration, the contestant would get the necessary guidelines. The web designs (links or files) have to be submitted to punecommutes@gmail.com before November 25. The results of the contest will be announced on November 30.

The traffic police department is set to launch its independent website by early next year and sees it as a major tool for intelligent traffic and transportation management in the city.

The website, according to officials, would be the first of its kind in any city with advanced features and comprehensive details on traffic with various useful links and helpline numbers. One of the important features of the website would be that it would provide real-time information about traffic situation on various roads in the city.

According to the officials, the website will provide information on all planned and unplanned road closures, traffic jams and its reasons. While planned road closures happen during festivals or VIP visits, unplanned ones happen because of vehicle breakdowns, agitation rallies and the like.

The website is being developed with the help of Janwani of the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture ( MCCIA), Pinnacle group, and Tejraj promoters and builders, a press release stated.
