Times of India: The management of breast cancer involves several stages and several specialists. There are very few comprehensive centres in the state offering all these services in integrated fashion, said industrialist and social worker Anu Aga. She was speaking at the inauguration of the breast care clinic at the Sahyadri hospital in the city recently. A unique feature of the clinic is that it is run by an all-woman team of specialists comprising of a screening doctor, breast radiologist, breast surgeon, medical oncologist, psychologist, dietician and all-woman staff and technicians.
Regarding the all-woman breast clinic, cancer expert Shona Nag said, “The Sahyadri hospital’s breast care clinic is run by a team of women specialists making it comfortable for the women to address their problems. It aims to address the difficulties in breast cancer diagnosis and treatment by providing a comprehensive and integrated service within one department so that within a short time the patient is correctly diagnosed and is offered a management plan for the future.”
“As part of our fight against breast cancer, we at Sahyadri hospital run a monthly support group for breast cancer patients on the second Saturday of every month. The name of our support group is Breast Friends Pune and our website will be inaugurated on the October 25,” said Nag.
Worldwide, October is celebrated as breast cancer month. On the occasion, the hospital has put together a series of programs and events to spread awareness about breast cancer.
The breast care clinic aims to address issues like surgery, chemotherapy, radiation and finally, rehabilitation. By providing a comprehensive and integrated service within one department.
