Times of India: Union minister of state for human resource development (HRD) D Purandeswari will inaugurate a two-day conference on Internationalisation of higher education’ at Symbiosis International University’s (SIU) integrated academic campus at Lavle near here on October 14.
Vidya Yeravdekar, executive director of Symbiosis Centre for International Education, told reporters here on Monday that the two-day meet will focus on a range of issues concerning the field of higher education vis-a-vis changes occurring at the global level.
“Building world class universities, India’s approach to internationalisation of higher education, design and delivery of international curriculum, students exchange at international level and need for international students’ council will be some of the focus areas for deliberation,” she said.
Yeravdekar said, the overall demand for higher education in developing countries has been on a rise in the recent years owing to various factors like changing demographics, increase in number of secondary level schools, growth of knowledge-based economy etc.
“However, the public sector education has been found wanting in terms of meeting this demand. There is also a growing demand for internationally recognised qualifications,” she said.
Eminent speakers from national and international universities such as Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; Newcastle University, UK; Philips Universitat Marburg, Germany; New York University, US; National University for Educational Planning and Administration, New Delhi and International School of Business, Hyderabad, will address the plenary sessions.
