Times of India: As many as eight persons succumbed to H1N1 influenza in Pune between August 15 to 17 at various hospitals. With this, the swine flu death toll in the city has gone up to 347, since August 2009.
One death was reported on August 15, five deaths were reported on August 16, while two deaths were reported on August 17, according to the state health officials.
Elaborating on the deaths, state health officials said, “Alka Bhau Shinde (30), a resident of Karjat taluka in Ahemadnagar district, died at the Sassoon hospital on August 15. Shinde was suffereing from fever, cold and breathlessness for eight days before being admitted to hospital.”
“On August 16, two deaths were registered at Sassoon hospital including Shivaji Narayan Sherke (50), resident of Tadawale in Satara district, Anita Bhausaheb Shinde (35), resident of Goalgaon in Ahemadnagar district,” they added.
The officials said, “Other swine flu deaths registered on August 16 include Pooja Prakash Kokare (21), resident of Vitthalnagar in Pimpri who died at YCM hospital. Ayojit Balu Kate (20), resident of Pimple Saudagar died at D Y Patil hospital Pimpri. Sanjivani Hiraman Kamthe (40), resident of Yewlewadi, Katraj died at Bharati hospital.”
“Two deaths were registered on August 17. Mitthu Vaman Khedkar (35), a resident of Kale Boratenagar, Hadapsar was admitted to Noble hospital on August 13. While, Vikas Sahebrao Londe (22), resident of Dagdivasti, Malthan in Daund taluka died at Sassoon hospital,” they concluded.
Meanwhile, 56 people tested positive for the swine flu on August 17. The number of infected people has reached 1,438 since April.
Twenty-seven people continue to be in a critical condition. They have been put on ventilator support. There are around 148 patients admitted in the hospitals for swine flu treatment. Over 9,851 people visited the various screening centres on August 17, officials said.
