Workshop for tennis coaches from January 30
Sports — By The Desk on January 18, 2010 at 2:32 PMIndian Express: In a bid to raise the level of tennis in Maharashtra and widen the knowledge of tennis coaches, tennis professionals, trainers and those who contribute to tennis coaching in their own way, the Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) will host the first Maharashtra Coaches Workshop at the Mhalunge Balewadi Tennis Stadium in Pune from January 30.
The workshop will help coaches from the state to stay abreast with happenings in world tennis and will help enlarge their vision with new techniques in the game. “The play and stay programme introduced by the ITF, physical training for beginners to advanced players, yoga therapy for tennis players, new tennis drills and so on”, said Bhalchandra Bhagwat, convenor of the workshop .
Sunder Iyer, organising secretary of the workshop, said it would feature speakers like Dough Mccardy (USA), ITF development officer, who helped to transform the sport of tennis in China, International fitness expert and trainer of the Indian tennis, Hockey and Asian Cricket Council teams Dr Vece Paes, disciple of BKS Iyengar, Abhay Javkhedkar, Level III coaches Nandan Bal, Hemant Bendrey, Radhika Tulpule and Manoj Vaidya, chief coach, MSLTA.
The medium of instruction at the workshop will be English and Marathi.
It will feature live demonstrations, drills by the renowned tutors and speakers. Applications for the workshop have been available on www.mslta.org.
