Shatranj Wine & Dine at Hotel Green Plaza

It was a weekend and one of my dear friends had come down to Pune all the way from Bangalore, it was reason enough for us to indulge in a fun night out. Our most preferred location was Koregaon Park, firstly because it is close to Bund Garden and that is where I live and secondly my friend simply loves the atmosphere of the place. We zeroed in on Shatranj in Lane 4.

Without neglecting the fact that it was a Sunday night we decided to drop in at the earliest since we hadn’t made any reservations earlier. However we still managed to reach a little late somehow and so obviously couldn’t find a table for a while. Later we were lucky enough to find a table for two waiting for us. The Restaurant offers ample parking space and the absence of other commercial spots around here makes for a huge and spacious parking lot.

Food [Rating: 4/5]

This place offers great food for all and is a multi cuisine restaurant. For starters we ordered baby corn Manchurian which was pretty good. Along with the starters we ordered some drinks. I settled in for vodka with orange juice and my friend went for his usual beer which was served in wide glasses for a change instead of the regular beer mugs.

For the main course we ordered garlic chicken, a paneer dish (the name was too fancy to remember!), butter naan and chapattis. All the dishes were good enough to satiate a hungry stomach and a greedy tongue.

The quantity was good and sufficient for two.

Service [Rating: 4/5]

Well I am thoroughly satisfied with the service. Although the main course food was on time but we had to wait for the starters to come and by the time it arrived we had rumbling tummies. The waiters were very cheerful and dropped in at our table from time to time. They were not like the ones that lurch at a table and look like they eves dropping on the conversations.

Ambience [Rating: 4/5]

The open air layout of the place makes it very relaxing and you feel good sitting out there. Again the location is quite a delight, you are away from the hustle and bustle of the city. This contributes to the fact that majority of the customers are youngsters and families with young ones. Again you also won’t complain about the sitting arrangement as the tables are well laid with sufficient space between two tables ensuring you complete privacy.

Again you will get to see lots of greenery around you which adds to the beauty of the place. If you are lucky enough then you might also get to spot a small kitten playing around you happily and staring at you all the time unless you scare it away.

And the place wis also in tune with the latest IPL. So you can watch the IPL live in front of you while enjoying your food beneath the open sky. The restaurant has made provisions for the cricket lovers to enjoy the daily T20 matches. However keeping in mind its daily number of visitors they should have at least taken and effort to replace the 15’inch TV set by a larger wide screen or something.

Value for money [Rating: 4/5]

A bill for two came up to approximately Rs.600 and I am sure that speaks a lot about the value for money. Overall it was fine owing to the great food and the ambience.

Child Friendly

Although I didn’t spot any kid over there and also the place did not seem to have any special provisions for children, one would have no qualms about taking them along.
